What is the difference between 2200 military time and regular time?

2200 military time is the same as 10:00 PM regular time, that is when most people consider the day to be over. As most of us have probably noticed while watching the news, military time can often be confusing and seem like a completely different language.

Military time is a way of expressing time that has been adopted by many global organizations - including the military - and is based off of a 24-hour clock, as opposed to a 12-hour clock. Military or 24-hour clock time is expressed in four digits - for instance, 2200 military time would be written as 22:00. The first two numbers represent the hour, with 00 representing midnight and 23 representing 11PM. The last two numbers represent the minutes - with 01 representing 1 minute past the hour and 59 representing 59 minutes past the hour.

To convert from regular to military time, you simply need to subtract 12 from any PM times and add 12 for any AM times. For example, 8 AM would become 0800 in military time and 8 PM would become 2000 in military time. In other words, 2200 regular/standard civilizational day uses 10:00 PM to denote midnight (which is 00 in military time).

It's important to note that this method only works up until 12 PM; after this point you must start subtracting hours in order to convert into traditional/military clock conventions such as 11PM becoming 2300 Military Time.
